چکیده

L iraglutide is a long-acting glucagonlike peptide (GLP)-1 analog, which exerts its glucose-lowering action through multiple mechanisms (1). One important feature of liraglutide is its ability to enhance -cell function. The effects on -cell function have been demonstrated using standardized -cell function tests based on intravenous glucose administration (2–4). However, these studies may not reflect the modes of action of liraglutide during normal living. To assess the effects of liraglutide on -cell function in normal living, we have used a validated -cell model to analyze 24-h triple-meal experiments.

Liraglutide, a long-acting human glucagon-like peptide 1 analog, improves glucose homeostasis in marginal mass islet transplantation in mice.

The current scarcity of high-quality deceased pancreas donors prevents widespread application of islet transplantation for treatment of labile type 1 diabetes mellitus. Opportunities for the improvement of current techniques include optimization of islet isolation and purification, use of culture with pharmacological insulinotropic agents, strategies to reduce graft rejection and inflammation, ...

Liraglutide Improves Pancreatic Beta Cell Mass and Function in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Mice

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists potentiate glucose-induced insulin secretion. In addition, they have been reported to increase pancreatic beta cell mass in diabetic rodents. However, the precise mode of action of GLP-1 receptor agonists still needs to be elucidated. Here we clarify the effects of the human GLP-1 analog liraglutide on beta cell fate and function by using an ind...

Improved glycemic control with no weight increase in patients with type 2 diabetes after once-daily treatment with the long-acting glucagon-like peptide 1 analog liraglutide (NN2211): a 12-week, double-blind, randomized, controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE Liraglutide is a long-acting glucagon-like peptide 1 analog designed for once daily injection. This study assessed the efficacy and safety of liraglutide after 12 weeks of treatment in type 2 diabetic patients. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A double-blind, randomized, parallel-group, placebo-controlled trial with an open-label comparator arm was conducted among 193 outpatients with ty...

Liraglutide, a Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Analog, Increased Insulin Sensitivity Assessed by Hyperinsulinemic-Euglycemic Clamp Examination in Patients with Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

AIMS Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analog promotes insulin secretion by acting on pancreatic β-cells. This antihyperglycemic treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) has attracted increased clinical attention not only for its antihyperglycemic action but also for its potential extrapancreatic effects. We investigated whether liraglutide, a GLP-1 analog, could enhance insulin sensitivity as...
